In August, the organization introduced voting members to its president-elect candidates for this year. Sigma Xi’s mission is to facilitate research enterprise, encourage integrity in both technology and science, and foster the importance of both disciplines on human growth. This election, which will take place in November 2020, is important in determining the type of leadership that can affect research in colleges, universities, and government laboratories throughout the country.
When elected, the candidate will serve a three-year term beginning July 1, 2021 and ending June 30, 2024. This year, two candidates will vie to be president.
STEM Entrepreneur Richard Boudreault comes to the race having worked with 12 successful corporations. Outside of his professional accomplishments, Mr. Boudreault has served as director for Sigma Xi’s Canadian/International Constituency, vice president of Sigma Xi McGill Chapter in Montreal, and chairperson of Polar Knowledge Canada.
Nicholas A. Peppas will also run in the race for president. Mr. Peppas, a researcher in biomaterials, drug delivery, and chemical/biomedical engineering with several citations, comes to the race with extensive experience as well. His experience includes being elected Purdue University President in the 1970s and he is a member of several societies including the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National Academy of Inventors. He is also a past president of the Society of Biomaterials.
